Ride bells ring, are you listening,
In Hyde Park fake snow is glistening,
A beautiful sight,
We’re happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.
It’s that time of year again, a visit to the christmassy and magical fun fair located in London’s Hyde Park. Yes you guessed it. Winter Wonderland. I haven’t been hibernating for the past two weeks, I’ve just been super busy, you know with the count down to Christmas soon approaching and the dreary deadlines of essays and assignments at university. Unfortunate for me right? I did however get the time to pay my annual visit to the massive fairy-light-filled fantasy land. I had all my Instagram pals eager from Friday November 21st when the land first opened till even today posting their Winter Wonderland selfies. I myself had to join the trend of course. Entry to Winter Wonderland is free, but don’t forget to bring enough money to fill your stomach on all the festive treats. As I must admit the food is pretty pricey. Eek! Winter Wonderland will be open from 10am until 10pm every day, up until the 4th January 2015 (excluding Christmas Day). Most of the rides are paid for in tokens (£1 = one token), so be sure to stock up at a token booth before you get stuck in.
As you wander past the fairground rides, around child-friendly Santa Land (including Santa’s grotto) or through the Christmas markets, you really have to take a moment to embrace the spirit of the season, as long as you’re ready to hear all those songs as you potter around. The All I Want For Christmas Is You, the Jingle Bell Rock and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.
Other attractions at Hyde Park’s annual sparkly Christmassy addition include the Giant Observation Wheel and two circuses – ‘Christmas Circus’ and ‘Cirque Berserk’ – from the family-friendly Zippos Circus. Winter Wonderland’s ice rink, the biggest outdoor rink in the UK, surrounds the Victorian bandstand and is illuminated with more than 100,000 lights. Woah!
The Magical Ice Kingdom is your chance to get up close to some real ice and snow, meeting some mythical frozen beasts as you explore a chilly forest.
What me and my friends enjoyed the most was the roller coasters and fairground rides which kept us thriller-seekers happy.Although if you prefer to stay on solid ground there are the selection of themed bars with real fires, except for the Ice Bar (for obvious structural reasons) where even the glasses you drink from are made of ice. The Mirror Bar was quite cute too.
Winter Wonderland is not just all fair ground games I had previously gone on off on the search for the perfect outfit ensemble for the day out. I got it covered just in time. I had my eye on the gorgeous Pins & Needles Cut-Out Slouchy Sparkle. It’s classified as a top, but I decided to wear it as dress- with tights because the weather is currently below human conditions for me. This top by Urban Outfitters is part of the exclusive label Pins & Needles which is crafted in an all-over sparkly fabric with cold shoulder and intricate strap detailing for that contemporary edge. The whole collection is beautiful with a focus on print and texture, which creates feminine styles with a fun and youthful twist. There’s the lace, chiffon and knitted fabrics, or bold print play suits, cut-out detail dresses and flattering statement skirts.
