Checking In: Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket
Karon Beach, Phuket, Thailand

My week spent in a castle-like Sino-Portuguese inspired hotel felt like a beach fairytale getaway. Centara Grand Beach Resort towers high above the turquoise and emerald coast of the most secluded area of Karon Beach in Phuket, Thailand. The dramatic scenery is scattered with layers of sweeping palms and rolling hills cradle the resort’s crystal clear swimming pools, water slides and waterfalls. Laced with a lazy river, relaxation and pure incomparable bliss, the Centara Grand Beach Resort is a romantic hideaway jungle.
The Centara Grand Beach Resort however is a family paradise too, with a kid friendly environment where a range of activities can hosted around the children’s pool and within the kid’s club, there’s plenty to entertain your little one whilst you sit back and relax - I still don’t have to worry about that because I’m still currently child-free.
There are a range of rooms, suits and villas to choose from as the hotel has 262 rooms, offering a balcony or terrace with views of the gardens, pools or sea. I opted for the Spa Deluxe Ocean Facing where I could unwind in our outdoor jacuzzi and cool off in our walk in rainfall shower. If you want to splash a bit of cash then you should upgrade to the pool-suites where some of the spacious villas have their own plunge pool on the terrace! All rooms include the standard choice of amenities to ensure a comfortable stay, such as controlled air-conditioning, minibar, in-room safe, flat-screen TV with satellite channels and wifi.
Karon Beach is mainly made up of resorts which caters to families and couples looking to get away from busy areas within Phuket. Patong is not too far away for a mental night out! Right at the end of the stretch of beach The Centara Grand Beach Resort is secluded and set apart from the other main resorts in the area. There is also some local shopping, dining and nightlife worth exploring in Karon Beach. The beach itself has excellent snorkelling (and even diving) spots at its southern end and is wide enough for beachgoers so you never feel crowded. If you’re up for a bit more adventure, you can even enjoy kayaking, windsurfing, snorkeling and sailing! Diving lessons can be arranged with the hotel concierge.
Our days spent in resort or even after a day exploring was leisurely and where there’s a friendly vibe and lazy days dipping in and out of an infinity pools the norm. You can unwind at SPA Canvaree, take a quiet stroll along the pristine coast, plunge into the pool from their dedicated cliff jump area, or just lounge around with nibbles and cocktails delivered to your sun spot haven. A personal favourite spot of mine was the adult-only infinity pool with a dedicated Ripples pool bar!
We ate a few nights within the hotel, although eating out in Thailand is very cheap. Sit down dining was always enjoyable, where’s no shortage of places to eat and drink within the hotel. Room service of course is available as well. A selection of fine dining and casual dining is sure to suit any of your amazing fairytale getaway moments. Mare is the resort’s signature restaurant, serving delicious Italian cuisine and boasting its own bar and wine room - it was so good that we ate there twice! The local beer Singha which everyone is drinking to wash down the spicy food and my favourite cocktail here was their version of the Singapore Sling which I highly recommend. You receive your drink in a giant tiki head cup which is super cool.
The Cove is a beachfront restaurant with a variety of options on the menu from Thai to Indian to European, there is something for everyone. The Cove does offer 2 options, one a la carte, and one all you can eat buffet. Make sure to select the best choice for you. What’s great about The Cove is that they host theme nights so the food is always different every night.
